Map Hero 340WP – Solution for Brown spot disease on Dragon fruit

1. The infestation:

 Brown spot disease caused by Neoscytalidium dimidiatum (Penz) Crous & Slipper fungus.

2. The infestation favorable weather condition:

The disease usually appears and seriously damages in the rainy season, due to high humidity. In prolonged heavy rain period, through rainwater the fungus spores spread and cover other parts of the plant and neighboring trees.

3. Symptoms:

The disease’s symptoms are observed on branches and fruits. When first appeared, the initial symptom was white dents (so some farmers also called white spot disease,…), then the disease emerged into round brown spots like crab eyes. In favorable conditions, the disease thrives, the diseases link together, making the branches and dragon fruit rough, causing dry rot in patches.

4. Prevention and Control Solution:

• Using certified seeds, which need to be treated with pathogens before planting.
• Provide a balanced amount of nitrogenous fertilizer for plants to avoid thriving brown spot disease.

5. Application Timing: 

• For brown spot disease, it is advisable to treat the preventive application, which is the “preferred solution”. Or conduct spraying when early lesions appear on young branches, buds, or fruit.

Note: Spraying wet evenly on the head, fruit surface, to give good control of brown spot disease on fruit and assurance of fruit quality. Spray again after 5-7 days when the weather is favorable for the disease to develop
